Dr Overton Eugene W. Overton M.D.

Dr. Eugene Overton is the president of Heritage Family Practice. He lives in Northern Virginia with his wife. Dr. Overton has six adult children and many grandchildren.

A native of Virginia, Dr. Overton attended Richmond public schools, Yale College, and Colgate Rochester Divinity School. He earned his medical degree from the University of Virginia Medical School in 1971. After internship at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Dr. Overton returned to UVA for completion of training, serving as Chief Resident from 1973-74.

He currently holds a clinical appointment at the University School of Medicine and is Board Certified in Family Practice.

Dr. Saksena Shubhra Saksena M.D.

Dr. Shubhra Saksena began with Heritage Family Practice in October of 2005.

Originally from North Carolina, Dr. Saksena earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from UNC – Chapel Hill and her Doctorate of Medicine from Wake Forest University School of Medicine in 1999. (In case anyone is wondering, she is a Tarheel, of course!) She then did Family Practice residency training as Chief Resident in Harrisburg, PA at Pinnacle Health, graduating in 2002.

She is Board Certified in Family Practice.

She currently resides in Northern Virginia with her husband and young son.

Dr. Peyton Vanessa Peyton, M.D.

Dr. Vanessa Peyton came to Heritage Family Practice in October of 2006.

Having spent most of her childhood and high school years in Northern Virginia, Dr. Peyton returned in 1999 with her family.

She completed her undergraduate degree in chemistry from the University of Rochester and received her medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in 1994 and completed her residency training at Natividad Medical Center in Salinas, CA in 1997, where she was Chief Resident.

She is Board Certified in Family Practice.

Dr. Pipan   Catherine M. Pipan, MD

Dr. Pipan joins Heritage Family practice in June of 2008.

Having grown up locally in Northern Virginia from Falls Church, Dr. Pipan graduated from Denis J. O’Connell High School in 1983. She attended Immaculata College in Pennsylvania receiving her B.A. In Biology/Chemistry with Honors in 1987. She completed her medical education at the University of Virginia in May 1991 and two years of surgical training at the Washington Hospital Center before finishing a residency in Family Medicine at Fairfax Family Practice Residency in June 1996.

She has worked in Annandale, VA for the past 12 years and has been a “Top Rated Primary Care Physician” by Washington Consumers’ Checkbook in 2006.

Her outside interests include trail maintenance with the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club, hiking, biking and backpacking.

She resides in Fairfax, VA with her husband and cat and is delighted to be working close to home.

Jean Cox, FNP-C Jean Cox, FNP-C

Jean Cox is a board certified family nurse practitioner. She graduated from Frederick Community College in Frederick, MD with an Associate’s Degree in Nursing. She then earned both her bachelor’s degree and her Masters of Science in Nursing at George Mason University in collaboration with the George Washington University’s School of Medicine. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau National Honor Society.

Jean has practiced as a family nurse practitioner for more than 10 years in the primary care setting, caring for both pediatric and adult patients. She is particularly interested in women’s and children’s health. Additionally, Jean has multiple years of experience providing international humanitarian healthcare in Honduras, Indonesia, Ecuador, and Haiti with Project Hope on the U.S. Navy ships, Mercy and Comfort.

Practice Philosophy-- Jean strives to help patients achieve optimal health by caring for them in a collaborative manner. Her goal is to have patients actively participate in the management of their personal medical problems and health maintenance.
